Why I Wrote Doubtless: Faith that Overcomes the World

Doubtaholism. What a concept, eh? The Holy Spirit gave me this attention-getting twist on the issue of doubt and unbelief a few years ago as I was preparing a Christian living column for The Voice, an international Christian magazine that seeks to advance Christian life and culture. The purpose of the column is to address the challenges Christians face in every day life, both spiritual and natural, with a biblical response.

Oftentimes, the lessons I share in these columns come from my own life. I tend to study to live rather than study to write or to teach. So when you read my Christian living articles you are discovering the practical lessons I learned in the midst of my own struggles and victories. Notice I say victories. Thanks be to God, who always causes us to triumph in Christ and makes manifest the aroma of His knowledge to us in every place (2 Corinthians 2:14). Amen?

The concept of “Dealing with Doubtaholism” was first an article in The Voice, but the Holy Spirit had so much more to say than I could fit in a 900-word column. It’s been years now since I first penned the article on which this book is based. But I believe now is the time to distribute a more in-depth body of work on the topic of doubt, its dangers, and how to resist it in Christ. It’s vital that we prepare our hearts to receive everything God has for us in our personal lives, our families, our ministries and the Church at large. That preparation means rooting out doubt that dilutes our faith. In doing so, I believe we will come away with greater discernment in every area of our lives – and greater faith.

If you’ve picked up this book, there’s a pretty good chance you discern a struggle with doubt in your own soul. Don’t let the voice of doubt rob from you any longer! The devil will assuredly fight you on your journey to rid yourself of “doubtaholism.” He may already be trying to convince you that you don’t have a problem with doubt or that this book can’t help you. That’s the voice of doubt itself. Resist it actively as you read the pages ahead.

Listen, no condemnation. Doubt is sneaky and it plagues us all to some degree or we’d be walking in the fullness of God, believing in our heart and confessing with our mouths and seeing 100 percent of God’s promises manifesting in our lives 100 percent of the time. While we aren’t yet mature enough to handle some of the things God has in store for us, we need to be of this mind: If there is something God wants me to have right now, then I want it right now! I refuse to let doubt stand in the way of fulfilling His destiny for me.
